Donations are a key factor in allowing Masterworks Choir to bring the high quality musical performances the community has come to expect and enjoy. While the Choir benefits from State and County artistic grant monies, we rely heavily on the continued contributions of our individual patrons and supporters. We are deeply grateful to all those who have given to our Choir in the past.

By making a donation, you are helping to ensure that we can continue to bring beautiful music to our community and create memorable experiences for audiences of all ages.

To this day the Masterworks Choir strives to foster an awareness of a diverse selection of quality choral music, performed by volunteer singers and offered to the public free of charge. The Choir is made up of volunteers primarily from Cape May County but also draws from Cumberland, Burlington and Camden Counties as well as southern Pennsylvania. They range in age from pre-teen to those in their 90’s having a variety of vocal skills. The singers are of varied ethnic and musical backgrounds. When they join together twice a year to rehearse and perform the common factor is the joy of singing.

Volunteer

Masterworks Choir is a community chorus open to all who love to sing, regardless of age or musical abilities. There is an open call for singers at all times. There are NO AUDITIONS and NO MEMBERSHIP FEES. Music is provided by the Choir. The rehearsal and performance venue is St Peter’s United Methodist Church in Ocean City, NJ ( on the corner of Central Avenue and 8th Avenue).

The facility is ADA compliant and parking is readily available. The Choir performs two concerts per year, Summer and Fall. Rehearsals typically begin 8-10 weeks prior to a performance, one evening a week for about 90 minutes. During the Holiday Season, members can volunteer to perform “sing-a-longs” at local Senior and community centers.

*No auditions. New singers are always welcome.

Why We Sing

We enjoy singing with the Masterworks Choir as a family. The music is challenging and we love seeing old friends and meeting new people and working towards a common goal. Our director, John Bate encourages us to “go to the music”. He always has a story about the music we are singing and inspires us to do our best. Singing makes us feel as though we are part of something bigger than ourselves. We become part of a larger group sharing music that speaks to everyone in a different way. This brings us joy.

Claire and Oliver Thies

I sing because I’m excited to learn and sing with such a great group. And now to find out that my father and mother sang in Masterworks first year singing is very gratifying. It continues the spiritual connections I have always felt with them. After I sing I always feel like I have a good talk with my dad. Singing with Masterworks continues that conversation.
